In this interview, Achille Mbembe, co-founder of CHCI member organization Ateliers de la Pensée, discusses the significance of the CHCI-sponsored Doctoral School, a workshop for graduate students from throughout Africa attending the Ateliers de la pensée. In his comments, Mbembe addresses intellectual legacies, the day-to-day life of graduate students, and the immediate future of Africa.

Early-career

Humanities centers can’t mitigate all the shortcomings or fill in all the gaps of current doctoral training, but they could do more. That will require envisioning future roles and taking on new functions to realize them.
