What is it in today's world that is making populist and authoritarian approaches to government more attractive than democratic ones? This is one of the core questions that the CHCI-Mellon Crises of Democracy Global Humanities Institute (GHI) explores. Diverging from the well-worn path of using economic and scientific models to address the issue, the GHI uses the strength and diversity of the arts and humanities to provide new insights into democracy and cultural trauma.
