The Américas Awards

The Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs founded the Américas Award in 1993 to encourage and commend authors, illustrators and publishers who produce quality children’s and young adult books that portray Latin America, the Caribbean, or Latinx in the United States. Join this conversation to learn more about the program as a model of public engagement, and to discover more about the authors who have been recognized by it.

Building Public Humanities Networks

As interest in collaborative humanities scholarship and practice has grown, centers and institutes are assembling critical infrastructure. Panelists share the challenges and successes of building networks across “The Divided City” of St. Louis, the Central New York Humanities Corridor, the “Humanities Without Walls” consortium spanning the Midwest, and an international field that includes the University of Ghana, Washington University, Stellenbosch University, and the American University of Cairo.

Just Futures and the Public Humanities

Driven by its belief in the leading role of the humanities to address the most difficult challenges of our time, the Mellon Foundation has created Just Futures, grants awarded through a competitive process to multidisciplinary, university-based teams across the US who are committed to racial justice and social equality. In August 2020, the Foundation’s Higher Learning program inaugurated the initiative by inviting scholars from a select group of colleges and universities to propose ambitious humanities-based projects that would address racial inequality in bold and imaginative ways. Join this conversation to hear more about some of the projects involved in this transformative public humanities initiative.
