New CHCI Member Center Inauguration Features Keynote Address by Judith Butler, "The Value of What We Do"

Headed by Pablo Oyarzún, the Centro Interdisciplinario de Estudios en Filosofía, Artes y Humanidades is the first of its kind in Chile and promises to become an important hub of humanities research and advocacy regionally and globally. In addition to presentations from various university administrators, the ceremony featured a keynote presentation from Judith Butler–titled, "The Value of What We Do"–that reflects on the work of humanists, reconsiders the concept of value, and explores the contributions of humanistic research beyond the academy. See the full address below (in English, Spanish, and sign language).

CHCI would like to congratulate the University of Chile for organizing such an impressive event. In addition, we are looking forward to July when scholars from around the world will gather in Santiago for the CHCI Global Humanities Institute "Translation’s Theoretical Issues, Practical Densities: Violence, Memory, and the Untranslatable," organized by Pablo Oyarzún.
