The Northrop Frye Centre’s mission is to facilitate and encourage undergraduate research, engage in the international exchange of humanist scholarship, and promote academic discussion at Victoria College and the University of Toronto. The Northrop Frye Centre offers three types of fellowships each year, two of which are stipendiary. The Center also hosts and collaborates on a number of events and projects each year to support our mission.

We offer three types of fellowships each academic year. The Northrop Frye Centre Doctoral Fellowship is for doctoral students registered in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto who will have completed course work and exams and be in the writing stage of their dissertation by the time the fellowship begins. Doctoral Fellows will act as mentors to undergraduate students, host workshops, and will communicate their research in a public lecture organized by the Centre. This is a stipendiary fellowship. The Northrop Frye Centre Undergraduate Award provides students with the opportunity to further their involvement with Humanities and Social Sciences research. This award allows undergraduate students either to assist in a faculty member’s research project, or to pursue their own independent research with a faculty supervisor. Award winners become de facto undergraduate fellows for the academic year and receive project support from the NFC Coordinator. They present their research at a symposium organized by Victoria College. This is a stipendiary award that confers fellowship. The Northrop Frye Centre Visiting Fellowship is for scholars working on research projects in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. NFC Visiting Fellows will have access to the University of Toronto library system and the E.J. Pratt Library’s special collections. Visiting Fellows are encouraged to attend and participate in Northrop Frye Centre and Victoria College events, and will be expected to communicate the results of their own research in a public lecture organized by the Centre. This is a non-stipendiary fellowship.
