About
The New England Humanities Consortium (NEHC) is a network of universities and colleges across New England dedicated to intellectual collaboration interdisciplinary exchange, and regional humanities programming. Together, the eleven founding members—Amherst, Colby, Dartmouth, Northeastern, Tufts, University of Connecticut, University of New Hampshire, University of Rhode Island, University of Vermont, Wellesley, and Wheaton—are dedicated to building a dynamic hub of academic activity that creates opportunities otherwise impossible without the shared resources of the consortium.
NEHC will facilitate partnerships between universities and colleges pursuing common goals. By creating a system for encouraging humanities programing in these ways, NEHC will not only increase the impact of more isolated and independent efforts, but also provide the structures that members can access to plan more expansive, multi-institutional programming. These considerations spurred the formation of the NEHC but also outline its chief goal: to produce networks of humanities programming unachievable by any single institution on its own.
At this political moment, research in the humanities needs strong voices. The NEHC promises to join and amplify these voices in New England by creating a platform, programs, and an infrastructure for the humanities that goes beyond what any one institution can do. It is our mission to create systems together, moving faculty, students, and eventually the public into collaborative dialogue, uniting the potential of the region for humanities advocacy and enrichment.
