About
The Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere at the University of Florida has three interrelated purposes: to facilitate and promote the research programs of humanities scholars at the University; to provide an intellectual space and a physical location within the University and College for critical and collaborative discussions of the humanities that reach across and beyond individual disciplines; and to provide a place for outreach to the community in which we live and teach. Building on the work of individual departments, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere emphasizes collaboration and critical discussion as its basic program models. The Center maintains the following programs to promote the humanities at UF and beyond: Grant and Fellowship Support in the Humanities; Public Humanities and Public Speaker Series; Writing Retreat; Graduate Humanities Summer Institute; Public Humanities Internships for graduate students, and Humanities Engagement Scholars program for undergraduate students. The Center also oversees the following granting programs for University of Florida faculty, staff, students, and members of the public: Library Enhancement Program in the Humanities; Programs in the Public Humanities (for projects in collaboration with an external partner); Rothman Summer Fellowships for Faculty in the Humanities; Support for Workshops and Speaker Series in the Humanities; Tedder Family and Rothman Doctoral Fellowships in the Humanities, and Publication Subventions.
