Past Programs

CHCI supports a wide array of initiatives, including multiyear, international collaborative research projects, global institutes and workshops, and fellowships for scholars at member institutions.

CHCI Africa Workshop - Addis 2019

The first CHCI Africa Workshop, Addis 2019: Africa as Concept and Method: Emancipation, Decolonization, Freedom, will be held at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) in January 2019. Hosted by the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI) in collaboration with the College of Performing and Visual Art and the Center of African Studies at Addis Ababa University, the workshop will include intensive seminars, mentoring and training workshops, and guest lectures.

African Humanities Map

CHCI’s mapping of the humanities in Africa is designed to help the organization better understand where and how institutions and centers of humanities research and training exist on the African Continent. This research will help CHCI to foster and support cross-continental and global humanities networks that amplify local and regional projects, and reflect the practical and conceptual possibilities of the humanities center model.

CCKF-CHCI Summer Institutes

The Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange have partnered to support annual summer institutes for young scholars on the general topic of “Chinese Studies and Global Humanities.”

Integrating the Humanities across National Boundaries

Four member-driven collaborative projects that advanced CHCI’s commitment to fostering innovative inter-institutional, interdisciplinary and international models of humanities theory and practice in the twenty-first century.

New Scholars Seminars

From 2015 to 2017, CHCI and centerNet collaborated to organize a pre-conference seminar for new scholars attending the annual Digital Humanities conference. The New Scholars Seminar has been a great opportunity for them to meet and discuss their work with international leaders in their discipline.

CHCI-OCIS Visiting Fellowship Program

This partnership with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies supports scholars at CHCI member organizations to conduct research in any area of the arts, humanities, or the social sciences that has relevance to the study of Islam or the Muslim world.
