Membership Activity Fund Recipients (Q4 2024)
We are proud to announce the four recipients of funding from the CHCI Membership Activity Fund for 2024 Q4. The amount of funding totaled $30,000 and is derived from our membership dues and our current Mellon grant focused on global inclusive collaborations.
Foregrounding Africana Pluriversal Health Humanities Knowledge: Reconnection and Reconciliation. Chisomo Kalinga, Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, University of Edinburgh. Organizing a one-day interdisciplinary symposium which foregrounds inclusivity and sustainability in transdisciplinary Black and Africana medical and health humanities scholarship.
2025 Conference of the CHCI Liberal Arts Colleges and Small Universities Network. Christophe Koné, Oakley Center for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Williams College. Leading a meeting of the network from May 15-17, 2025, including an access fund for participants from historically underrepresented organizations, such as HBCUs, HSIs, and international institutions beyond the U.S.
Situating a Benthic Humanities: Composing Knowledges with Nerm (Port Phillip Bay). Killian Quigley, Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Australian Catholic University. Organizing a two-day fieldtrip at and from Port Phillip Bay and collaboratively compose a framework for situating a benthic humanities in subaqueous place and in relation to regional, hemispheric, and planetary seabeds.
Symposium of Deans of Humanities Faculties in the East African Region. Peter Simatei, African Cluster Centre, Moi University. Convening a symposium for deans of humanities faculties in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, to take stock of the challenges facing humanities in the region, address these challenges, create a platform to foster collaboration, share best practices, and explore new opportunities for the future of humanities education in the region.
The Membership Activity Fund is a small grant opportunity open twice a year for funding proposals from CHCI member centers and institutes. This fund supports our membership in two core goals:
Supporting inclusive collaborations among CHCI members and their partners, and
Supporting activities with outcomes that will benefit our membership.
