CHCI Annual Meeting 2026 Registration is Open

Registration is now open for the CHCI Annual Meeting taking place June 1–5, 2026 at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada. Under the theme "Building the Present We Want," this gathering brings together humanities scholars, center directors, and public intellectuals to explore how humanistic inquiry speaks to our most pressing challenges.

The 2026 Annual Meeting comes at a critical moment in the life of academic institutions. As political and economic pressures intensify around humanities scholarship and academic freedom globally, CHCI member institutions are seeking spaces for rigorous, collaborative conversation about the intellectual work at the heart of our mission. Banff offers such a space—a gathering site grounded in creative practice where conversations about urgent contemporary challenges can unfold with the depth and nuance these questions demand.

This year's program will bring together CHCI's network of 250+ member centers across 34 countries to share research, institutional practices, and visions for how the humanities can address critical questions about justice, sustainability, democracy, and human flourishing. The meeting will feature keynote addresses by Alondra Nelson and Bonnie Honig, alongside member-led sessions, collaborative workshops, and professional development opportunities for humanities center directors. The themes emerging across our membership—from environmental humanities to digital culture to academic freedom—will shape conversations designed to both document and imagine the present we collectively need.

Early-bird registration is available until February 2. Register here. A professional development workshop for humanities center directors is also available as an optional add-on to the main meeting.
