About

Founded in 1975 to support postdoctoral research in the humanities, the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University is today the Society of Fellows and Heyman Center for the Humanities (SOF/Heyman)--dedicated not only to fostering innovative scholarship, but also to applying the critical, reflective, and interpretive practices of the humanities to address real-world challenges. Through workshops, conferences, lectures, seminars, performances, and [public humanities collaborations](https://sofheyman.org/public-humanities/overview), the SOF/Heyman offers opportunities for faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students, artists, practitioners, and community members to participate in cross-disciplinary inquiry that is intent on illuminating the past, engaging the present, and imagining new ways to produce knowledge that promotes the public good.

As part of our commitment to fostering a vibrant intellectual community that encourages connections between scholars of various disciplines and at different career stages, the SOF/Heyman offers several fellowship opportunities for graduate students and faculty, both at Columbia University and beyond:

· [**Society of Fellows**](https://sofheyman.org/fellowships/society-of-fellows): Our foundational postdoctoral fellowship for early career scholars in the humanities and humanistic social sciences

· [**Heyman Center Fellows**](https://sofheyman.org/fellowships/sof-heyman-center): Columbia faculty and graduate student fellowship

· [**Public Humanities Graduate Fellows**](https://sofheyman.org/fellowships/public-humanities-graduate-fellows): For Columbia graduate students interested in the public humanities

· [**Edward W Said Fellows**](https://sofheyman.org/fellowships/edward-w-said): Providing access to the Said archive at Columbia University

· [**Heyman-Hub Fellows**](https://sofheyman.org/fellowships/trinity-long-room-hub-and-sof-heyman): Visiting Scholars exchange with the Long Room Hub at Trinity College Dublin

We also participate in the [CHCI/ACLS Partnership](https://chcinetwork.org/programs/chci-acls-fellowship), which connects CHCI member organizations with recipients of ACLS Fellowships
