The Institute for Signifying Scriptures (ISS) embarks on a new venture as an independent scholarly organization in the fall of 2014. Committed to transgressive research that advances a new mode of inquiry into social-discursive formation, the ISS invites scholars, scientists and artists to engage and analyze some of the persistent and vexing issues of culture and society in the twenty-first century.
Founded and directed by Professor of Religion Vincent L. Wimbush, the ISS has produced a decade of innovative programing and groundbreaking research as an affiliated research institute of the School of Religion at Claremont Graduate University. Now, the ISS has expanded into a fully independent 501(c)(3) organization that seeks to connect with partners both inside the academy and beyond.
