About

The Centre for the Humanities and Health at King's College London is a multidisciplinary research centre in the medical humanities. Clinical practice daily encounters a great diversity of patient experience, yet biomedical science focuses predominantly on the causes, mechanisms and treatments of diseases, accounting for experience in various cultural and healthcare contexts only partially and schematically. Patient voices are expressed in a wide array of cultural objects and settings, which it is the task of medical humanities to identify and illuminate. The Centre brings together senior academics, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students from English literature, philosophy, history, film studies, nursing, psychiatry and primary healthcare, to tackle important questions about health care, illness and disease-related experiences within a programme of work entitled, 'The Boundaries of Illness', which is supported by public and research seminars and an MSc in medical humanities.
