About

The Center for the Humanities catalyzes innovative, interdisciplinary, and collaborative inquiry in core and emerging humanities fields at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in the communities it serves.

Our programs establish a coordinated vision for scholarly and public engagement with literature, history, philosophy, and culture through workshops, fellowships, seminars, curriculum development, and conferences. Each year we welcome world-renowned scholars from across campus and around the globe for public lectures, events, and projects. From its founding, the Center has championed collaboration between scholars and the community. The Center for the Humanities has worked with more than 200 community partners over the past twenty years to bring humanities-based scholars, students, and ideas into our local and state communities, with the goal of creating meaningful collaborations that address pressing community needs and help our community members, students, and faculty to thrive.
