About

Founded in 2001, the Center for the Humanities supports superlative research and teaching in the Humanities at Grinnell. The Center provides Grinnell faculty with an opportunity to be in dialogue with Humanities scholars both locally and around the world, provides an ongoing forum for sustained communication between the Humanities and other academic endeavors at Grinnell, and gives selected students an opportunity for intensive intellectual collaborations with faculty. The activities of the Center each year focus on a broad theme selected by the Center's Advisory Board. In some years, the Center invites Distinguished Visiting Professors to lead faculty and student seminars related to their research and the selected theme. The Center also coordinates workshops, reading groups, and collaborative arrangements that enable the Grinnell College faculty to pursue common research, teaching, and programming interests on campus, all in order to highlight the contributions of the Humanities to interdisciplinary endeavors at Grinnell.
