About
The Center for 21st Century Studies, a UW System Center of Excellence at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus, is a postdoctoral research institute which was founded in 1968 to foster crossdisciplinary research in the humanities. Supported by the College of Letters and Science and The Graduate School, the Center is devoted to the study of contemporary culture (with an emphasis on literature, the experimental arts and film, mass culture, performance, and everyday life) and the new critical and theoretical approaches themselves (feminism, media theory, multiculturalism, postcolonialism, cultural and social theory, and gay and lesbian theory).
Provost's Fellowship
Applicants must have received their doctorates within five academic years previous to the year of award. The Provost fellowship is designed to further broaden the academic networks of the group of faculty in residence at C21, and is thus unavailable to UW-Milwaukee and UW System faculty. The fellowship is awarded to support interdisciplinary research projects in the humanities, which include, but are not limited to, philosophy, history, literature, religious studies, and art history. Proposals employing humanistic approaches from the social and natural sciences and the arts are also welcome. Applicants should be working on topics related to this year's theme.
