About

The Institute for the Humanities fosters development of a broad, highly innovative humanities culture at Northwestern University. Established in 1992 (as the Center for the Humanities) in response to radical challenges that redefined the boundaries and practices of the humanities, the Institute invites participation by faculty members and students in the College of Arts and Sciences, and other schools such as Journalism, Music, and Communication, as well as the Library. The Institute's diverse activities not only address current interpretive and theoretical concerns, but also promote an interdisciplinary conversation among humanists working with different materials and texts at diverse levels and locations across the University through a range of sponsored events.
