Gaonkar was a fellow in residence at the American Academy in Berlin at the time. Their conversation covered the political, cultural, and rhetorical questions of "the refugee" in Europe and elsewhere.

James Chandler in conversation with Jane Ohlmeyer (Director, Trinity Long Room Hub at Trinity College Dublin). Ohlmeyer is a co-organizer for an upcoming CHCI Global Humanities Institute on "Cultural Trauma and Crises of Democracy."

Rosi Braidotti (former director of the Centre for the Humanities at Utrecht University) in conversation with Deborah Jenson (former director of the Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University). This CHCI meeting was Jenson's last as a member of the CHCI Board and director of the Franklin Humanities Institute.

Chris Dercon (Director, Volksbühne Theater in Berlin), talks with Roni Mann (Director of Humanities, Barenboim-Said Akademie) and Mena Mark Hannah (Dean, Barenboim-Said Akademie) as part of a panel discussing arts, arts education, and the reconstitution of interregional relationships in Berlin.

The piano at the American Academy in Berlin awaits Saleem Ashkar. Ashkar performed selections from Beethoven's Sonata Cycle, a work he has recently been performing in its entirely. He is an ambassador to Music Fund, a humanitarian project that supports musicians and music schools in conflict areas.

The fellows' dinner is a Monday night tradition at the Academy, where fellows, their families, and guests all regularly dine and converse together. On this occasion, CHCI board members, staff, and the day's panelists were invited to join.
