Thursday, May 19

The first part of Thursday afternoon will take place at the John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute (FHI), and then we will transition to the Nasher Museum of Art for an optional guided tour, and the opening of the conference. Registration will open at 12:00pm at the optional CHCI Network gatherings taking place at FHI, and will also be available starting at 3:00pm at the Nasher Museum prior to the opening event.

Transportation: Please arrange your own transportation to the Network meetings and registration.

  • 3:00pm - 3:30pm | Transportation: To travel from FHI to Nasher Museum of Art, meet FHI staff at the registration table at 3:00pm and they will lead you to the Duke campus bus stop for short five-minute ride. Alternatively, this walk will take 20-minutes.

  • 3:30pm - 4:30pm | Virtual Social Hour open to all attendees

  • 4:00pm | Guided tour of the Nasher Museum of Art (optional, pre-registration required), Duke University (2001 Campus Dr., Durham)

Check-in for the tour begins at 3:30, the tour will run from 4:00 to 5:00pm. Note that the Museum galleries and cafe will remain open until 9pm.

  • 5:30pm - 7:00pm | Conference opens: Poetry Reading by Nathaniel Mackey (Duke University) with the Our True Day Begun Soon Come Qu'ahttet, Nasher Museum of Art

Friday, May 20

The first part of Friday morning's activities will take place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the rest of the day will occur at the main Duke conference site, Penn Pavilion. The evening dinner and reception will take place at the nearby Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Conference Registration will be available at Penn Pavilion beginning at 10:30am.

    • Unfortunately, Brent Hayes Edwards will not be able to attend our Annual Meeting to deliver his keynote address, "The Mask of the Translator." We wish him the very best, and we warmly welcome Massimo Leone who will present his keynote address virtually from Italy.
