Lodging Options
Please carefully review the following options for CHCI member accommodations. You may also arrange for your own accommodations, but non-designated lodging sites may not be served by Annual Meeting shuttles.
Free Accommodations
The Humanities Research Centre and ANU are generously providing fully subsidized accommodations for CHCI members traveling to the Annual Meeting from outside of Australia. You must indicate your interest in subsidized accommodations in the designated field on the Annual Meeting registration form. We will make your reservation from the information you provide – please do not contact University House directly.Australian CHCI members are not eligible for subsidized accommodations, but may take advantage of a self-paid, discounted room block at University House. Australian CHCI members should contact University House directly to make their reservation in this block.
Free rooms are available for the nights of June 13, 14, 15, and 16 in University House, ANU’s main guest facility. A small number of additional rooms are also available on the night of June 12. University House provides comfortable rooms in a pleasant setting, and all standard rooms have two single beds and ensuite bathrooms. University House provides the advantage of being located very close to our Annual Meeting venues. Our supply of free rooms is limited, and if you wish to take advantage of this opportunity, we strongly recommend that you register for the Annual Meeting as early as possible. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and we cannot guarantee that all attendees will be able to receive subsidized accommodations.

Travel
Canberra is in Australia’s National Capital Territory, approximately 275KM from Sydney International Airport. As the country’s capitol, it can be reached easily via several modes of transport. The following are recommendations only and should not be considered definitive. Please consult your travel agent or other resources to confirm the availability of these options and to book your travel.
Air travel to Canberra Airport (CBR) is typically via connection at Sydney International Airport (SYD) or most other major cities in Australia. The airport does not serve direct international flights. Please remember that flight-time to Australia can be quite long from most locations, and that Canberra is several time zones ahead of the US and Europe. In order to reach Canberra by the beginning of the Annual Meeting events on 13 June, most attendees will likely need to depart on or before 11 June from most origins. We further recommend that international travelers consider a one-night layover in Sydney on 12 June to compensate for jet lag. Please consult with your travel agent for recommendations suited to your specific needs.
In addition to air connections, Australia’s Country Link rail system runs four trains per day on weekdays from Sydney to Canberra. Find timetable information here: www.countrylink.info/timetables/southern/sydney_to_canberra. Buses run frequently from Sydney International Airport to Canberra, with one-way fares in the range of $15AU. Further, all major rental car companies maintain facilities at the Sydney International Airport, and the drive from Sydney to Canberra is between three and four hours. There are no parking fees for guests staying at University House, but you may incur fees if you choose another lodging option. If you choose to drive, please confirm the requirements for driving in Australia that apply to your country of residence, and stay on the left, mate!
