CHAT FESTIVAL AT UNC-CHAPEL HILL

CHAT, a digital arts and humanities festival featuring Collaborations: Humanities, Arts & Technology, will draw together the diverse digital resources of the Triangle region in a series of performances, discussions, exhibitions and workshops February 16-20, 2010 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Festival events will showcase existing collaborations among these resources while exploring the ways digital technologies are transforming the practices of the arts and humanities, including how we learn, think, know, teach and express ourselves both as individuals and as communities. Festival partners represent UNC, Duke and N.C. State universities, the Renaissance Computing Institute and a number of top technology firms in the RTP. Keynote speakers include Mike Wesch, cultural anthropologist from Kansas State University; Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft Corp.’s Entertainment & Devices division and Xbox guru; Jesper Juul, international game theorist; and Jason Rekulak and Steven Hockensmith, the brains behind hit mashups “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and forthcoming prequel “Dawn of the Dreadfuls.” The UNC Institute for the Arts and Humanities (iah.unc.edu) is coordinating the festival.
